Quilted Coat Project

When we think about quilts and their capacity for comfort, we imagine wrapping ourselves into a large blanket that smells of home and feels like a hug. I chose to create a coat, or a garment as a quilt, because I think of quilts as objects you share with the people you are intimate with, whereas a garment is more a personal object- a socially distanced quilt. Quilts speak of making the most of what we have, where we are, and resourcefulness. They bring ack memories of maternal lineage and the comfort of our families. While we all are separate from these communities and remaining alone, we must fine ways to self-soothe. What better way then to wrap yourself in armor of comfort?
